I have a home server running Hyper-V in a workgroup setup and recently refreshed one of my Windows 10 PC to fix an unrelated issue. After going through the usual steps of adding trusted hosts, allowing anonymous logon via DCOMCNFG, and setting the local admin password under Network Passwords, I was getting:
Access Denied: Unable to establish communication between XXX and XXX
I followed all the steps, until I came across a post regarding this registry keys:
I don't know much about these, but all I knew is they were mentioned in a post, and that they were different. I spun up a new VM of Windows 10, followed my usual steps, and then applied the same registry keys to the new machine from the working ones. Low and behold, I was able to connect again.
Here are the steps I followed:
1. Install the Hyper-V Management GUI (I don't use PowerShell tools)
2. Start the Windows Remote Management service
3. Run the following in powershell (as Administrator):
